Well, I have been visiting the forums of IAS aspirants and there seems to be a lot of misconception that low salaries of elite services is the main culprit behind the corruption.
My father is an AIS officer and the so called 'low salary' is the last thing on his mind. The government pays enough to satisfy our needs and not our greed. Some people have skewed opinion that salary is too low compared to corporate majors.Well, do you think those jobs offer you the flexibility to change the society as civil services do? Every job has its highs and lows and civil services very much compensates for the lack of good pay.Not only will you be comfortably placed in huge govt bungalows, job security and other perks will ensure that you live comfortably. If an IAS officer falls prey to taking bribes, its not because he is struggling to make his ends meet, its mainly to his greed.
I am rejecting a job offer from a MNC which is offering lot of Money which i may never get in civil services. But i ll choose civil services anyday because it will give me an opportunity to make so much difference to the society.
With great powers come great responsibility, babudom is never a career to satiate monetary desires.A fat bank account and bulging wallet is not what IAS officer meant to have, instead an account of good deeds is what he should seek. Life is more than Money and materialistic pleasures. Is it not?
If you are worrying about pay scale during your preparations, you are not even mentally prepared to take the exams!!
